Good morning, all. Bob Pelletier from Pelletier Photos. Thank you very much for watching this video, and today I would like to leave you with a quick tip on exposure.

Whenever we take a picture, you’re wanting to either remember something, or we’re wanting to show something. One of the most important things that we can do as we do this is make sure that whatever we’re taking the picture of can be clearly seen.

With today’s modern day cameras, whether it’d be on the phone, or whether it’d be on the DSLR they are marvelous, masterful at reading a scene and getting the light right, more times than not so you can let them see it. Sometimes you want to play with it for artistic reasons, but they may not get it quite right. Most of the time you can trust it.

I want to show you some examples of some of the photos that we took early on and also now. As you can see in some of these earlier examples, the exposure was not set correctly. So it’s a little hard to gather what I’m taking a picture of or the story that I’m trying to tell.

As you can see from these later examples, the pictures are now well exposed, and you can clearly see what we’re taking pictures of. It takes a little while to get used to.

The simplest way they can do it, and the simplest thing that you want to do on a camera, let’s just use the iPhone for example, it should work on Android as well, is when you go to take your picture, hold the phone to get ready to take, make sure that you tap on whatever you want to be well-exposed. What it will do, it will not only focus on that, but it will also make sure that the light on it is well done.

Most of the time we take pictures of human faces, our friends or families or those things, we want to make sure those are well-exposed. And sometimes a scene can be hard to read and you take the pictures and the person’s face is dark. If you tap on their face when you go to take a picture and make sure that it focuses and make sure the exposure is good on the face. It will adjust the exposure and make sure that it’s set properly for their face so that you get a good exposure every time.

So, in summary. Just about every camera you’ll want to make sure whatever your subject is is well-exposed or modern day cameras all you need to do when you bring them up is just tap on it before you hit the shutter button. You should get a good exposure every time.
